The Dolphin pub had been a local watering hole of the lovely St Marychurch area of Torquay. Sadly it had got a bit worn out and ended up being closed and left vacant for over 8 months. Damage and decay had set in both inside and out. Heavitree Brewery came to Ecomaster with hopes of reviving the pub and brining it back to life under new management. Ecomaster designers went to work imagining a bright and spacious atmosphere and planning a practical, safe and productive place of business.
What went into the work:
- Design & CAD planning
- Project planning and preparation
- Deconstruction of existing pub interior
- Flooring installation
- Furniture reupholstery
- French polishing
- Electrical installation
- Furniture building
- Painting & decorating
- Bathroom plumbing
- Garden decking
The Heavitree Brewery is a family run brewery with a range of lovely pubs across the South West of England. After our renovation of Marshals, Barnstaple The Heavitree entrusted us with a complex and challenging refurbishment of a pub and landlord’s residence that needed bringing back to life.
In the design phase of the project, the shape of our brief was formed it became clear our tasks would include:
- Reducing the size of the bar to create space
- Complete replacement of flooring with new highly durable vinyl ‘click’ flooring and quality hard wearing carpets
- Construction of an outdoor garden patio area
- Brand new toilet facilties
- Upstairs bedroom refurbishment
- Furniture re-upholstery
- Booth seating construction and upholstery
- Extensive decoration
It was also essential that The Dolphin gained an identity that would make it a natural home from home for it’s local customers. We encourage you to browser the gallery to take in the character we created and the details that combine to create it.
The pub had been left vacant for some months before our refurbishment and it showed.
Once the old furnishings were removed and we'd given it a good clean we moved in to build the new interior. Our durable and attractive wall seating helped create space whilst offering a perfect perch just aside from the centre of the pub.
Offering pub meals to patrons in the food area or outside on the patio is very important to The Dolphin. A kitchen portal was central to this, a hardwearing laminate surface and chalkboard bay doors on quality hinges helped make our solution attractive and functional.
Of course the bar is the centre of any pub, our expert joiners got to work. The new bar is a great example of properly polished hardwood, the timber cladding carries a nautical air central to the design theme.
Each item of furniture was restored, reupholstered and set under warm vintage light fittings and the sunlight slicing through the blinds. We installed vinyl 'Click' flooring, this extremely hard wearing and attractive surface is ideal for catering venues.
The new landlords planned to bring music back to the pub. Live bands would play in the open area facing the bar and seating. To accommodate live music nights wheeled benches were created to fit into a nook by the door making space for the band.
Our furniture restoration is truly first rate. This chair was stripped down, treated, reupholstered and french polished. The result is a hardwearing cushion perfectly fitted, deep polished wood and a new lease of life for this vintage item.
Decorative attention to detail can always be found in our refurbishment work. The stainless steel hanging lights with vintage filament bulbs work well with the fresh colour scheme and look great hanging from high ceilings.
The renovation included the kitchen portal. Chalkboard shutter doors are an attractive and practical solution.
We built entirely new toilet facilities with modern self flushing systems, baby changing facilities and expert tiling.
A leading local news vendor covering our work after the grand reopening, the landlords were delighted we were proud to hear how happy the locals were with our work.
